What makes it great

Noise canceling microphone

The Evolve2 40 has not 1, not 2, but 3 MEMS microphones. MEMS microphones are tiny but powerful chips that allow for active noise cancellation. Because of these, you won’t have to worry about a noisy work environment interrupting your calls. The person on the other end of the line will hear you loud and clear, no matter how chatty the coworkers around you are.

Built-in busy light

Many headsets are compatible with a busy light accessory. You can plug it in to let people around you know when you’re on a call and need your space. However, the Jabra Evolve2 has a busy light built right into both of the earpieces! It’ll light up automatically when you’re on a call, or you can manually activate it when you just need some time to focus. This feature was recently reimagined by Jabra in order to make the light brighter and more visible no matter what angle people are seeing you from. It’s a feature that allows for a more seamless, productive workday.

SafeTone

The Jabra Evolve2 40 uses SafeTone technology to protect your ears while you’re on calls. Sudden spikes in volume while you’re on the phone are annoying at minimum. At their worst, they can cause damage to your ears. Thanks to this technology, you won’t have to worry about those spikes. The speakers on your headset will automatically detect large increases in volume and prevent them from coming through. That means more enjoyable calls and happier ears.

Jabra Direct

Jabra Direct is an app that will sync up with your Jabra headset, allowing for easier updates and customizations. Within the app, you’ll be able to set preferences for the volume level, customize the functionality of the headset’s controls, and update your device to the latest versions of firmware. If you’re using your headset with a softphone, this app will allow you to have full control over your calls. An individualized headset experience is not only possible; it’s simple, it’s accessible, and it comes from an easily navigable app.

Comfort

The Evolve2 40 is designed in a way that allows for all-day wear that won’t strain your ears or head. The ear cushions are made using molded foam. The material is light, and the shape is specially designed so that you won’t feel like your ears are being squished. The headband is also equipped with a thick layer of cushioning that’ll keep you pain-free all day.

Call immersion

Per the previous bullet, this Jabra USB headset has specialized ear cushions. Not only do they allow for optimal comfort; they also allow for an extremely isolated listening experience. They form a seal around your ear that will block out much of the background noise of your work environment, so you can maintain your focus no matter where you’re working.

UC certification

UC (Unified Communications) platforms are tools used by many businesses to streamline workplace correspondence. They centralize communication into one space, so calls, messages, conferences, etc. can all be carried out through one platform. The Evolve2 40 is UC certified. That means that you’ll have the full functionality of all of your UC platforms (like Vonage, Ring Central, or DialPad). You won’t have to worry about compromising functionality when you plug in your headset.

Easy setup

Because the Jabra Evolve2 has a USB cable, you’ll be able to plug it in to your computer and get straight to talking. You don’t need to spend time on complicated pairing methods, and you don’t need to stress when you want to switch between different devices. As long as you’ve got a USB port on your computer, you’re good to go. This is also an appealing feature for anybody who’s planning on taking their headset on the road. If you switch locations frequently, whether it’s due to a hybrid work situation or frequent travel, you’ll be able to bring your headset along wherever you go without hassle.

Easy muting

It’s always a drag when you need to mute your call and end up scrambling to find the right button on your headset. With a Jabra Evolve2 40, that issue is a thing of the past. All you need to do to mute your microphone is move the boom mic up, away from your mouth. It tucks away by your ear and stops picking up sound automatically. You’ll be able to mute and unmute without disrupting the flow of your calls.

When to look for a different headset

  • When you want to connect to more devices than your computer: This is a USB-connected headset. It doesn’t have the ability to plug directly into your desk phone or a headset jack, or connect to your Bluetooth devices. If all of your work is being carried out on your laptop, the Jabra Evolve2 40 is a great option. However, if you rely on more devices to take calls or use your UC platform, look for models that have different connection/compatibility.

  • When you rely on having mobility throughout the workday: There are lots of reasons why you might wish to have a wider range with your headset. Maybe you need to move around a bit in order to focus, or maybe you just like to get your steps in. Either way, if you need to be able to leave your desk space while staying on calls, the Jabra Evolve2 40 isn’t for you. In fact, corded headsets in general won’t be your best bet. Instead, look for a wireless device. If you’d like to stick with the Jabra brand, check out the Engage 75. If you’re open to other brands, we recommend checking out the Leitner LH270.

  • When you’re looking for a discrete device: If you prefer your headset to go largely unnoticed throughout the day - by you or by others - this option probably won’t fit the bill. It weighs 6.6 oz, which is quite a bit more than the majority of the other devices you’ll find on Headsets.com. It’s not so heavy that it’s uncomfortable, but you’ll be aware of it. Additionally, it’s big. When you’re wearing a Jabra Evolve2 40, people are going to see it. If you prefer a more subtle look, we recommend checking out the Leitner LH280. It’s an on-ear device that is light enough for you to forget you’re wearing it and small enough for those around you to ignore it. If you’d like to stick with a corded model, check out the Executive Pro Harmony. It’s an over-the-head model that takes up a lot less real estate.

  • When you work in an office environment that requires lots of communication with coworkers: As mentioned above, the ear cushions on the Jabra Evolve2 create a pretty effective barrier between your ears and whatever sound is going on around you. That’s great if you spend a lot of your day on individual projects. However, if you’re more team-oriented during your workday, you might want to check out a device that won’t isolate you from your surroundings. Consider a single-ear model like the Executive Pro Melody. You’ll have one ear for listening to your calls and another for staying in touch with what’s going on around you.

The Jabra Evolve2 40 is a powerful headset with features that make for a great user experience. It’s got bells and whistles that you won’t find on other corded headsets, and it’s got incredible audio quality to keep your calls sounding crisp and professional. That being said, this isn’t the headset for everyone, so make sure to take your needs into account when deciding if it’s the one for you.
